McBoatPhotography_AngelaWilliamsHeadshots-2Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus of Colorado website. Our members proudly serve in the Colorado General Assembly. Our goal is to work together to pass legislation, promote policies, and advocate in the community in order help the advancement of communities of color in the areas of education, economic development, judicial reform, health care, and voting rights. We collaborate with other legislators and organizations to ensure that our community’s interests are taken in to account and it remains important to us that our community’s voice is heard in state government.

Throughout Colorado’s history, African Americans have played a significant role in its governance. Since Colorado’s founding. over 35 African Americans have served in either the State House of Representatives or the State Senate. In recent years, I am proud to say that our numbers have steadily increased. In 2017 we will mark a unique milestone. For the first time in Colorado History, 2 members will serve in the Senate together and 6 members will serve together in the House.

As the Chair of the largest Black Caucus in Colorado’s history, it is an honor to continue leading this great legacy forward. My colleagues and I are committed to working together in order to achieve great things on behalf of our community. We understand that we not only serve our districts, but must provide a voice for African Americans and communities of color across all of Colorado.

In the session ahead, I hope that you will continue to use this site as a resource for staying up to date on legislation and political activities. You’re interest, involvement, and support are greatly needed and appreciated.
